NELC Professor Awarded by the Turkish American Cultural Association

NELC Professor Walter Andrews was awarded the Long Time Service Appreciation award by the Turkish American Cultural Association of Washington (TACAWA) at the Turkish Republic Day Reception on October 29, 20016 which was held in Mary Gates Hall.

Professor Andrews founded the Turkish Program at NELC in 1968 and on top of excellent work on Ottoman and Turkish Literature, he has been involved in the earliest digital humanities projects at the University of Washington.

NELC Chair Dr. Selim S. Kuru presented the award for TACAWA and Turkish language students with Turkish Language lecturer Melike Yucel were in attendance. And NELC Visiting Scholar Dr. Gülşah Taşkın and Interdisciplinary Near and Middle Eastern Studies PhD candidate Oscar Aguirre Mandujano recite poems translated from Turkish by Prof. Andrews.
