Oral History of Turkish Americans in Pacific Northwest Region

The research project, An Oral History of Turkish Americans in the Pacific Northwest Region, aims to record and preserve the oral history of people who immigrated from Turkey to the Pacific Northwest Region in the United States. The overarching goal of the study is to investigate the notion of identity—be it immigrant, religious, ethnic, national, or language, which has been one of the fundamental questions of philosophy from Socrates to Freud, among Turkish Americans in the region. It seeks to find answers to how immigrants define themselves and what identity continues to mean in the Turkish American culture.

This study is being conducted in collaboration with University of Washington Libraries, and it aims to create a digital archive of Turkish American immigrants in PNW Region.
